The mountain was named after Nellie Hawkins, a popular waitress of the Squirrel Inn located on the North Fork of the San Gabriel River.〔 〕 Although the Squirrel Inn is long gone, Nellie has her name on Mount Hawkins and South Mount Hawkins.
